Chris and Lee Hall
Bigger is not always better - or is it? Chris and Lee Hall run a cherry and sheep enterprise at Hall Family Orchards in Wombat, NSW. They originally came from a bigger orchard but decided to downsize to focus on quality and flavour. Ironically, a reduction in the size of the orchard has seen an increase in the size of their cherries! It hasn’t all been a walk in the park, or the cherry orchard, as the Halls have to deal with extreme climate events, including when they got hail four times in one year. The Halls have made many changes to enable their business to cope with climate challenges. Watch this video to learn some of the adaptive strategies they have made, including a focus on building soil organic matter and increasing whole ecosystem biodiversity to increase the resilience of their business.
